SPA & RESORT Series Vol. 2 – Hotel Grandes Alpes

Our second Spa will be a bit different. First of all, it’s in France, and it’s attached with skiing mainly, people are coming here to enjoy this winter sport. However, you don’t need to buy extra ski ticket, or anything, you can just book your room for relax, and chill! I choose this Spa Hotel, because i am amazed how big and luxurious the rooms are!

HUGE? AGREE! AMAZING!

GRANDES HOTEL ALPES – A BIT OF A HISTORY

The very foundations of The Grandes Alpes Hotel lie in innovation. The hotels’ founders were visionary pioneers in the creation of the resort. This remains a guiding principle today. Created in 1948 this was the first ever hotel in Courchevel 1850, and opened its doors simultaneously with the resorts first ever ski lift. It’s unique location at the heart of the resort, where three main ski slopes arrive, meant that during it’s early year’s the hotel was even home to the village’s post office, bank, tourist office, ski school…This heavenly mountain retreat will ensure an unforgettable experience in one of the world’s most desirable locations.

NINE INDIVIDUAL APARTMENTS-ROOM & SUITE

Nine spacious luxury, private apartments from 150 – 300 m²,
created by master interior designer Jean-Marc Mouchet. State-of-the-art technology meets haute couture in our collection of beautifully attired, perfectly laid out apartments.

Each three and four bedroom apartments feature spacious and luxurious living rooms with fireplaces, dining rooms with personal wine cellars , fully equipped professional kitchens and private balconies overlooking the slopes.  Some apartments even have private steam rooms, massage areas and outdoor hot tubs.

SPA SECTION

We can experience the main spa treatments, like body massage, swimming in the pool, sitting in the sauna, however, the options are a bit more limited.

Which we should understand, as people are mainly still coming here to enjoy skiing, and not just stay in the Spa section all day long!

The Spa as it it, amazingly beautiful, modern and luxurious, with HUGE space. And i mean it. It is HUGE!

FOOD AND DRINK

There are several ways to do this: have a private chef prepare meals for you in your own kitchen; order from the restaurant-quality in-room menu; eat in Le Bizan, the hotel’s Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant presided over by the exceptionally talented Paulo Bianchi, or combine all three, taking care not to miss Bianchi’s five-course tasting menu, featuring such delicacies as Wagyu filet with blackberry teriyaki, baby carrots and baby corn and miso marinated black cod with yuzu mash potato, dashi and smoked bacon broth.

You can, of course, go out:  Courchevel 1850 has eight Michelin-starred restaurants plus a great selection of mountain restaurants for lunch, including the recently opened Nammos (dancing on tables optional), on the Verdons run, and La Cave des Creux, on the Cave des Creux run.

PRICES

Prices starts from approx. 1200 pounds per people per night! Obviously it is a high category price, and i would say the Spa opportunities are not high tier, just for this hotel, with the services, i wouldn’t pay that much, but considering, that my main object is skiing, and the slope is less then 100 meters away from the entrance of the hotel, i would think about it again!

Rooms are unique, HUGE and amazingly luxurious, we can’t deny that fact. If your budget allows it, worth to come here, and spend a couple of days, skiing and relaxing.

SUMMARY

As a SPA Resort, you probably will find better options, in terms of service and the diversity of the treatments, but i have rarely ever seen more amazing rooms and suites then in the Grandes Hotel Alpes. It bought me, and obviously ski lovers will like it also, because its really close to the slope, beautiful view from the balcony, and really peaceful and chilled, when you finished skiing, and got back to the room, enjoying the luxury.

I recommand to everyone at least once, it is clearly a lifetime experience!

BRIMSTONE SPA, LANGDALE

A LITTLE HISTORY

We have to go back all the way to the 17th century.

The Estate began life as a small woollen mill where wool from local flocks was processed on machinery driven by the fast-flowing water of the Great Langdale Beck.

Late on, around 1930, a local landowner, recognising the potential of the unique location, bought & developed the site as a holiday resort. By the late 1930’s, accommodation consisted of a small hotel, several furnished cottages, dormitories & a guest house. There were also a number of rustic sleeping cabins scattered around the idyllic 35-acre Estate.

Sold to Matthew Brown, a northern-based brewing company in 1987, some months later in 1988 the business was acquired by Scottish & Newcastle Breweries who had bought Matthew Brown. In 1996 Langdale was purchased by Langdale Owners plc, all of which are Langdale timeshare owners, who thus have effective control of the entire resort.

BRIMSTONE SPA

Inspired by the heritage of its location, Brimstone Spa incorporates natural elements derived from its home, the Lake District. Combining this with luxury relaxation methods, Brimstone Spa offers an indulgent way to unwind and simply relax, all whilst being surrounded by the breathtaking Lakeland scenery.

The fact, that the resort is surronded by nature, only nature, makes it so peaceful, and relaxing. If someone wants to escape from the busy city, well Brimstone easily can be a good decision already.

ROOM OPTIONS

Wide range of room options, as you are able to choose more than 7 different suite types. Most of the suites are really big, quiet, comes with a BIG bathtub, really comfy bed, and a terrace, with an amazing view to nature! I would like to add here, that the room service is brilliant! Quick, punctual, professional!

Rooms are coming with a BIG tv, and a Free Wifi usage also!

FOOD

First of all, when it comes to breakfast, and it is coming straight away to your bed, i think most of people are satisfied! This is exactly what is happening in Bromstone Spa! Feeling special, really!

There is a restaurant called Stove, where we can spend our lunch or dinner time!

The restaurant is well prepared, for peopel with allergy, they have a great knowledge of allergies, and they are able to make vegetarians and vegans happy also!

You will be able to choose from many starters, like Prawn & Crayfish Cocktail, then you can have a 3 Cheese Mac & Cheese, finishing with a Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding for example!

You will also be able to choose a stone-baked pizza, or many grill options, and finish with one of their finest cocktails!

Stove restaurant has a gluten-free menu and a dairy-free menu also, and a kids menu!

PRICES

If you consider, that the service is really close to perfect, the professionalism is on the spot, the staff are extremely helpful and professional, the location is unique, the atmosphere is intimate and really relaxed and peaceful, than i think the place is worth every penny.

Room prices starts from 300-350 per night depending on the season also. Which price includes breakfast and the use of the full spa section!

SUMMARY

I definietelly think, Brimstone Spa is one of the best Spa in the UK. It is luxurious, but at the same time you can have a laid back break in the nature, enjoying champagne in the warm pool. The service is unbelievably wide and luxurious, excellent and kind staff, great spa treatments, great food!

I think the prices are matching with the quality of the Spa and the services, and the professionalism as general!

SECRET LAGOON, Flúðir, ICELAND

Created in 1891, this geothermal pool 100km from Reykjavík is rural and rugged, but is less crowded and has better views than the more famous Blue Lagoon. There are changing rooms, indoor showers and just one pool, but the volcanic surrounds and snowy plateaux make up for the lack of modern facilities. The pool water stays at 38-40C all year round, with a little geyser that erupts every five minutes. The cafe serves hot drinks and snacks. In the evening (the pool closes at 8pm) there’s a chance of glimpsing the northern lights.
